Mohamed Simakan is a French professional footballer who plays as a defender for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and the France national under-21 team.
Born in Marseille, France, Simakan began his career at Olympique de Marseille, making his professional debut in 2019. In 2018, he moved to RC Strasbourg Alsace, where he quickly established himself as a regular starter. In 2021, he signed for RB Leipzig for a fee of €18 million.
Simakan is a tall and athletic defender with good pace and strength. He is also a good reader of the game and has a strong tackle. He is capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back.
At international level, Simakan has represented France at under-19, under-20 and under-21 level. He has yet to make his senior debut.
Arsenal has expressed interest in Mohamed Simakan, Arsenal Informer understands. We can confirm that this is true through our network of sources. The initial approach was made by Ed Aarons.
Arsenal is in the market for a center-back for the summer, and Mohamed Simakan is definitely one to watch, alongside Guehi and Sutalo (exclusively reported by Lorenzo).
However, evaluations are still ongoing, so as things stand, Arsenal has not yet chosen their main target.
No negotiations with anyone have started yet, but concrete talks need to commence. We’ll see how the situation develops.
